Cycling holidays in France
Perfect for relaxed cycle tours for all abilities

France - one of the best destinations for cycling. Think 'Tour de France', quiet roads, rolling countryside and stunning vistas.

Throw in a population that generally appreciates and respects cycling and you have a great destination for a week's cycle holiday!

Because our cycling tours are a bit different, when you join one of our cycle holidays in France you'll experience great food, wonderful wines, and excellent company. PLUS we'll give you time to go and explore the areas we visit on your own too - it's not all about sitting on your bike for hours every day.

We have, initially at least, picked a half-dozen destinations spread from north to south, that we think epitomise the French lifestyle, from cosmopolitan northern towns to the laid-back attitudes of the South and Southwest.

Most of our French cycle tour routes are between 20 and 50 miles and are easily achieved by an average cyclist. This is an holiday not a training camp! Including a lunch break we would expect to be out on the road for between 2.5 and 6 hours each day - but not all of that time will be on your bike. You'll have time to stop and smell the sunflowers, photograph the landscape and experience the culture. A couple of our tours will include museum visits such as Normandy Beaches that will visit Pegasus Bridge and also Arromanche both key sites in the D-Day landings.

Unsure where to go in France, or just want a short journey the other side of the English Channel?

Check out our Normandy and Picardie cycle holidays. Our Picardie destination is only about an hour from Calais and Coquelles (Channel Tunnel) - or Dieppe. Alternatively, our Normandy tours are 1-2 hours from Dieppe or less than an hour by car from Caen-Ouisterham (Brittany Ferries). We have two cycle holidays in Normandy, in both June and October.

Come along for the ride and, along the way, experience some superb cuisine matched with stunning wines and spectacular views as we cycle through picturesque French countryside.

Our 2018 French cycling holiday diary looks like this:

  • Picardie, Northern France - 9TH-15TH JUNE 2018
Fabulous coastal scenery only around an hour from Calais, Coquelles or Dieppe. Perfect for people looking for a cycling holiday with easy rides, the quiet roads of Picardie are relatively flat with only gentle hills. You can visit famous seaside towns like Le Touquet Paris-Plage or even Bolougne-sur-Mer. You're also a short drive to the Somme Valley and the battlefields of 'the Great War'. A perfect toe-in-the-water cycle holiday in France!
  • Normandy, Northern France - 16TH-22ND JUNE 2018
Explore coastal towns such as Houlgate, Ouisterham and Deauville as we cycle through this beautiful area of Northern France. Check out this relatively quiet, but beautiful, area of Normandy with some gentle cycling routes. We'll aim to cycle over to the historic Pegasus Bridge on the Caen-Ouisterham canal too with its D-Day Museum.
  • Gers, South Western France - 8TH-14TH SEPTEMBER 2018
Not far from the Pyrenees, riding is a bit more energetic, but the spectacular views make the fruits of your efforts all the more incredible! During downtime, visit towns like Tarbes, Pau and Auch.
  • Lot et Garonne, South West France - 15TH-21ST SEPTEMBER 2018
Our base is on the outskirts of a Bastide town - something this region is known for. Cycle tours will be a little more hilly, but the views, the people and the wines are worth it! The Lot Valley is one of the few areas in Europe still to grow the Malbec grape variety!
  • Ardeche, South Central France - 29TH SEPTEMBER TO 5TH OCTOBER 2018
Stunning gorges are a focus of our Ardeche cycling holiday. Again, a certain level of fitness is key - but realistically any regular cyclist will enjoy this incredible region.
  • Normandy Beaches, Northern France - 6TH-13TH OCTOBER 2018
An opportunity to visit the Normandy beaches that were key for the D-Day landings away from June (when they are quieter) whilst also taking in many of the sights of Normandy. We'll try and build in a Calvados tasting if time allows too!

You'll note that our French cycling holidays are outside of the core holiday season - by design. Whilst our holidays are family friendly, we're not aiming at families and want to avoid school holidays both in the UK and in France.

What about accommodation for our cycling holidays in France?

More details are shown on each cycling tour's pages but briefly, the majority of our accommodation in France is in the vein of a quality holiday park - in fact our provider owns Centre Parks! You can take a look at an overview of some of our properties by visiting our French accommodation page.

Where our preferred provider doesn't have properties, we will be looking to find similar properties, failing which we will source a good quality small auberge for our groups.
